Happy Monday, friends! I love watching me some Oscars, and that's exactly what I did yesterday! Before we get into my piece, here were a few of my favorites from the red carpet... Halle Berry was insane in beaded Versace. There were tons of beaded looks too - Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Adele - and you just can't really ever go wrong.
I was so in love with the blue/black mix of Reese Witherspoon's Louis Vuitton dress. The cut fit her so beautifully, but the blue was just outstanding on the red carpet!
And, I just loved Jessica Chastain's entire look. The hair, the lips, the sparkles...I fell in love immediately!
OK, so onto my dress! This piece was originally headed to Goodwill this past fall I had it in my collection for a bit and it just never got any wear. Strapless, textured, white and black colored dress...
...with a BIG stain up front! There are no before shots of me in this piece because I truly never had any plans to make it over. I mean, check out that stain one more time...
On a last chance bid for redemption, I took the dress on a little vacation to RIT Dyesville. Right after that, I rethought my Goodwill trip and wished that I had taken that before shot.
Here's a little teaser...
While I was having fun dyeing pieces to recreate the "Two Broke Girls" waitress costume for Halloween with a mix of Tan and Sunshine Orange shades...
...I decided that I might as well toss the strapless number in with the colors. I took it out of my Goodwill bag (that's a feat in itself, going from in the bag to out of the bag) and tossed it in the washing machine with everything else to see if A, the stain would be covered up and B, if the dress was salvageable.
Verdict is in, and the answer is TOTALLY SALVAGEABLE!!!
How much more fun is this dress now that it is stainless and a vibrant color! It's not formal enough for the Oscars, but for a cocktail party, sign me up! I paired it with some pointy toed heels (old Bebe) and was ready for an Old Fashioned.
Now for Oscars, this is the look we're going for...
How about adding an amazing skirt on top of that dress! No cutting, no pinning, just layer that skirt and into the limo you go! Hello 2-for-1 look which I'm totally obsessed with. PS, the skirt...vintage Scott McClintock I snagged for $4.99!!
Since the skirt isn't full length - OK, so maybe it's not totally perfect for the black tie-ness of the Oscars, but for the Golden Globes, this is perfection! - I wanted the perfect shoe to get highlighted. In today's case, I grabbed my Betsey Johnson bow heels...along with a quick touch up with my OPI polish.
The texture of the dress paired with the satin/velvet mix on the skirt worked like a charm.
I couldn't resist a little bit of hair bling either...
My earrings were these big, fab, clip on star earrings that made me feel like I was the live action version of Jem & the Holograms. (What's up Synergy??)
I grabbed my vintage suede clutch that totally matched the stripes on the skirt, a vintage rhinestone band, along with my aviators to round out the look.
Yep, you can see I got a little excited about this look. Jennifer Lawrence falls as she walks on stage and I jump like a gymnast...before falling on my tush. (We'd be perfect klutzy pals!)
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
