Halloween Location Looks: Day 3 of 31 – Legally Blonde

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continue!! Today's costume comes from:

I love this movie :)

They actually shot the Harvard Square scenes at the All Saints Church in Pasadena...

...so I knew I had to recreate an Elle Woods costume!

The key Elle Woods costume pieces that you’ll need include:

1. Pink!! (The cardi and dress are H&M - sweater thrifted from Goodwill, dress hanging in my closet for 4 years!)

2. Stuffed Chihuahua (If I only had a real chihuahua to tote with me. This stuffed one will do in the interim.)

3. Wig (Divine Light Blonde Wig c/o Party City)

Time to "bend and snap"!

My real hair color is blonde, but not blonde enough to mimic Reese Witherspoon in this movie!

With my wig on, I prepped for my best "bend and snap"...

...and got to bending and snapping!

The church has a gothic feel, so it totally seems like it could be Harvard! Just by looking at the below shot, I totally bought it.

The architecture is stunning.

Reese was rocking the pink throughout the film...

...so a mix of a strapless pink dress and a pink cardigan made up my lookalike costume. That's the best part about this ensemble. You can't go wrong by wearing pink!!

I brought my stuffed Bruiser along with me, being he has just as big of a role as Reese Witherspoon does!

Halloween Location Looks: Day 2 of 31 – 500 Days of Summer

One month of costume inspiration from our favorite movies and TV shows continues! Today’s costume comes from:

One of my favorite scenes from 500 Days of Summer was shot at downtown LA's Bradbury Building and I couldn't wait to go inside!

Zooey Deschanel played Summer to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Tom and the city of LA played the third lead!

I went with Zooey Deschanel's look from the end of the film, so the key Summer costume pieces that you’ll need include:

1. Beige Trench Coat (Mine is old Anthropologie, but this H&M one is perfect at $25!)

2. Black skirt (I wore my vintage Escada skirt, but any black skirt works! Target has fab ones.)

3. Dark Hair (I didn't go with a wig this time, but this one is perfect for a Zooey lookalike!)

4. Black Briefcase or Purse (mine is thrifted from Goodwill - this is something easily grabable from your accessory pile!)

5. Thick Framed Glasses (super Zooey-esque cheap frames from Amazon)

"I think it's official. I'm in love with Summer."

So, when I walked inside the Bradbury Building, my jaw dropped. The architecture was incredible.

The last scene of the film was shot here...

...so I put on my best Joseph Gordon-Levitt job interview face...

...and shot some candids.

Zooey's look was easy to recreate...

Working with items that I had in my closet already, it was just a mix and match of a greenish sweater with a black skirt, a beige jacket, black purse, and a pair of thick black frames.

Another fun scene takes place at Broadway Bar. Summer gets hit on, JGL stands up for her, and well, watch for yourself!

Is the sign not gorgeous? This facade makes me happy each time I drive by it. This was the first time that I actually shot a photo in front of the bar even though I've been there numerous times for birthday parties.

My costume series kicks off today! One month of costume inspiration from our favorite movies and TV shows shot in front of the actual shooting locations! Get ready. Today's costume comes from:

Grease's "Rydell High" was actually the exterior of Venice High School.

Still looks just like it did when the film was shot in 1978...

I loved the transformation of Sandy(Olivia Newton-John) from poodle skirt to Candie's heels, so we're recreating her sultry side for the costume!

The key Sandy costume pieces that you'll need include:

1. Red Lipstick (I wore MAC Dangerous)

2. Mules (I wore my vintage Candie's, but any slide on heels work!)

3. Wig (Starlet Wig c/o Party City)

4. Leotard (A spandex/nylon one works well) 

5. Leggings (shinier, leathery ones will be your best bet)

"Look at me, I'm Sandra D!"

I felt just like I was one of the Rydell kids.

The "shake shack" Sandy/Danny portion has got to be one of the best parts of this end sequence!

Unfortunately, there's no shake shack at the school, so "Danny" and I took to the hallway.

We did our best ONJ/John Travolta impersonation...

...and think we were successful.

Such an easy costume to think about for Halloween!

Channeling my inner Olivia Newton-John couldn't have been more fun!
