Halloween Location Looks: Day 8 of 31 – Swingers

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 8 has arrived and it’s money, baby. Today’s costume comes from:

Cafe 101 in Hollywood could be another cast member in Swingers. It's the bottom floor of a Best Western and virtually looks the same as it did when the movie came out almost 20 years ago!

I think this is where my obsession with Los Angeles really began...

Vince Vaughn + Jon Favreau = get me out to LA, ASAP!!

The key Trent (Vince Vaughn) costume pieces that you’ll need, include:

1. Light Yellow Button Down Blouse (Perfect piece to source at the thrift store - my long sleeved version is courtesy of a garage sale!)

2. Brown Wig (c/o Party City)

3. Tank Top (If you don't have a stash of 10 at your fingertips (ahem, fingers pointing at this girl), you can grab a some on Amazon! I live in these, workout in these, sleep in these...you name it.)

4. Martini Glass (The perfect accoutrement to the Trent costume!)

The teaser quote I posted on Instagram yesterday is probably the most iconic phrase from the movie.

I was going to use "Hi, this is Nikki, leave a message" but the pain felt during that scene is insane. In. Sane.

Trent in the diner at the end of the film, flirting with the woman a few booths down is one of my all time favorite movie scenes ever.

Imitation is the biggest form of flattery, right? So I put on my best faux-Vince wig, grabbed a cup of coffee, and pretended that I was in Swingers too.

I love how the interior still feels like a 60s throwback.

Hands down, it's the one place I head to when I'm craving a tuna melt. And as many times as I've seen Vince in LA (it's been quite a bunch) I've never run into him here...

And as many times as I've been to Cafe 101, I've never run into her here either...

I used to get that I looked like Heather Graham a bunch in college, but that costume was just too easy. It's way more fun to dress up like Vince.

Halloween Location Looks: Day 7 of 31 – Cruel Intentions

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 7 is here and it's from one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. Today’s costume comes from:

The final scene from this film was shot at the All Saints Church in Pasadena...

...so it had to be one of this month's remakes! Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn is my costume inspiration.

The key Sarah Michelle Gellar costume pieces that you’ll need, include:

1. White Blouse (Straight from my closet leftover from my serving days!)

2. Cross (I used one from my collection but there are lots of Cruel Intentions fan sites that sell her exact one. Mine doesn't carry anything inside it though...)

3. Brown Wig (c/o Party City)

4. Plaid Skirt (This was a Goodwill, vintage Express find! Check out uniform supply stores too!)

5. Black Cardigan (From my collection, but this is another easy find, whether you hit H&M or Salvation Army.)

Using those five costume elements, my DIY Kathryn costume came together quite nicely!

The collared shirt is key, so any sort of sweater or cardigan that you can add on top of it works like a charm! Throw on a patch as well to really give it the private school look.

The final scene of the movie is my favorite! Kathryn gets a little taste of her own medicine...

...and gets served by Selma Blair's character.

This is one of the perfect "last-minute costumes" that you can put together with things that you probably own already!

Just grab a gent to be your Ryan Phillippe or a gal pal to rock Reese Witherspoon or both for the perfect trifecta of Cruel Intentions awesomeness!

Halloween Location Looks: Day 6 of 31 – Pee Wee's Big Adventure

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Hello Day 6! Today’s costume comes from:

I was totally obsessed with this movie and Pee-wee's Playhouse when I was a kid. I loved that he ate Mr. T cereal and used jumbo silverware. I think the use of a big knife to get butter for his pancakes sealed the deal.

One of my favorite scenes from Pee-wee's Big Adventure included these giant dinos.

When I found out that they existed in real life, weren't just film props, and were located right outside of Palm Springs, I had to make a visit.

I mean, hello...

Kind of the coolest thing ever, right?? Time to get the costume prepped!

The key Pee-wee costume pieces that you’ll need, include:

1. A grey suit! (Grab one while thrifting, borrow from your brother, or wear the one in your closet!)

2. Bow Tie (I made mine with felt (!!!) but Amazon has cheap ones if you don't have time.)

3. White Loafers (These are from KMart (under $15) but go with a pair of canvas shoes if you've already got them in your collection!)

4. White Blouse (Straight from my closet leftover from my serving days!)

Wanna see the new costumed Pee-wee look??

A trip to Palm Springs was made to see these dinosaurs up close and personal in a rockin' Pee-wee costume!

Pee-wee made it into the mouth of the dino...

...while I hung out with the teeth!

He also rocked some serious table moves...

...but I kept my version grounded.

I love the brontosaurus!

Pee-wee got into some shenanigans while he was there...

...and so did I! I just didn't have the same pleasure of a run in with "Large Marge".

Such a fun costume for Halloween that potentially can come directly from your closet! *Dinosaurs not included.
