Halloween Location Looks: Day 12 of 31 – Father of the Bride

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 12 is here and it’s time to walk down the aisle. Today’s costume comes from:

Awww, Steve Martin!! He makes the sweetest dad!

I always remember being obsessed with the Banks' house from the film, so when I went to shoot, it was just like being in the movie!

So to complete this costume, the key piece that you’ll need to rock a Father of the Bride look, is a wedding dress. I know, I know, it sounds ridiculous and pricey, right?

But wait!! It's not as ridiculous to source, as you can find tons of budget options at thrift stores! Mine came from a thrifting excursion and I scored it for $12!! Snag:

1. Wedding dress (Hit up your local thrift stores or grab a married pal who has theirs hanging in their closet!)

2. The hair! (my wig is c/o Party City)

3. Extras (A bouquet or veil would make this totally complete!)

The Instagram teaser quote from the film that I gave was this…

Once I made it to the house, I began my best "bride-ing"!!

Kimberly Williams' dress was long-sleeved, so that was where my head was at when I was looking at dress options.

Unfortunately I didn't have this set up when I tried on my dress, but I can wait to have this on my actual wedding day!

This is my "woo, I'm getting married" look. Does it work?

NBD, I'm just taking pics in a vintage wedding dress in front of a house that isn't mine :)

I have to say, wearing this dress was mighty fun. Plus it's super comfortable, which is always a key part to any successful Halloween. (Comfort is key! You can even hide sneakers under this dress!)

Hello, James Dean!!

One of Los Angeles' landmarks plays a part in the film...the Griffith Observatory in Los Feliz.

Switchblades and the LA skyline.

Having the most important part of the costume hanging in my closet already made the decision to rock a little "Rebel Without A Cause" so much easier.

The key costume piece that you’ll need to rock a James Dean, is a red jacket:

1. Red Jacket (I used a red suede Jenni Kayne one that I scored at a sample sale, so turn to your closet or grab one on a thrifting excursion.)

2. The hair...if you feel so inclined! (my wig is c/o Party City)

3. White T (Hanes do the trick!)

The Instagram teaser quote I gave was the following…

...however, "why did you kill those puppies, John" could have worked as another memorable one. When I rewatched it recently, I had to go back and listen again to make sure that's what I actually heard!

This might be the only shot where the wig actually agreed with me!

It was a wig flying in the wind, kinda day for the rest of the shots. I kept thinking that James must have dealt with bad hair days as well :)

The 50s vibe is down, using this fab black & white filter.

I was trying to be as tough looking as possible. Just like these dudes.

Nothing like standing in the same spot as James Dean did, almost 60 years later.

There's something pretty cool about that.

Fun costume to add to the potentials list! With a Natalie Wood on your arm, you've got a fab duo look!

I love me some Ron Swanson...

...but I really love me some April Ludgate!! Her sarcasm kills me.

The fictional town of Pawnee, IN, where the Parks & Rec team works, uses the lovely Pasadena City Hall as their exterior shot.

Perfect place to shoot my April Ludgate costume! The key costume pieces that you’ll need, include:

1. Navy Skirt (I used a navy H&M dress as my base but a skirt like this is an easy Goodwill find or one picked up at a unform store.)

2. Saddle Bag (I didn't use one for my costume, but a vintage bag like this one works to carry all the necessities for the evening.)

3. Brown Wig (c/o Party City)

4. Mustard Yellow Cardigan (A vintage Polo sweater from my collection, but this is another easy find, whether you hit H&M or Salvation Army.)

I featured one of my favorite quotes from the show to tease today’s post on Instagram…

Hello Pawnee!!

I loved this ensemble of April's from Season 6's "Gin It Up" episode...

...so I recreated it in front of the Pawnee City Hall, doing my best "I'm over it" look.

This is actually something that I'd totally wear in real life - could be something easy to put together using things from your actual closet.

I brought out my best deadpan vibe to channel my inner April...

I only wish that Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) was my co-worker...

You can even craft this into a fab group costume...
