OK, so this frockalicious get up is a one and only Laura Ashley number. Yes, somebody actually pined for this back in the 80s and thought to themselves, I must own this. To me it screams a mix between the Harrison Ford winner Witness and M. Night Shyamalan's less winning The Village. Yes, slightly Amish. Yes, slightly Pilgrim. Yes, altogether horrifying.
I wasn't quite sure where I was going to go, but I knew I needed to get as far away from this as possible, because unlike Kelly McGillis, this wasn't going to be a costume.
After some debating, I decided to chop it up and work it into some outerwear. First thing, I unbuttoned all the buttons on the top of the dress, hacked off most of the skirt and cut it down the middle. I took the maroon ribbon off that was attached by the collar and stitched it into a little belt. I opted to leave the edges where I cut the skirt raw to give it more of a rocker/Gwen's LAMB collection vibe.
Voila, instant jacket that doesn't make me look like I live in Lancaster, PA...not that there's anything wrong with that :)
