Today's featured piece comes from Natalie - it's a holiday dress, so I thought it would be perfect to show as we're smack dab in the middle of the season!! Extra ideas for holiday wardrobe are always welcome!! "I’ve always been a big fan of thrifting and then altering, but your blog dared me to take it to a whole new level! I’ve never tried dyeing before, but one evening my mom for some reason thought I might want her ugly light pink 80s “dress” (dress = sack) as a winter nightgown.
(And how pregnant does it make me look?!)
I love Natalie's look right now...priceless face!
I was about to turn it down, but I realized the fabric was knit, so I knew it would stretch AND there would be no zippers or buttons to deal with. I took a deep breath, went to Michael’s, and bought some RIT dye in cherry red. After staining a pot and a spatula, I had a really nice red color!
I chopped off the sleeves and took in the side seams. I also shortened it, obviously! I wanted the front to have a little zing, so I detached the front bib from the collar. (I opted leaving the collar because I wanted to use it as a Christmas dress, and out here on the East Coast it gets chilly…I thought the collar might keep me warm!) I twisted the front around once, re-attached it to the collar, and added my favorite sparkly pin.
It was the perfect Christmas dress! Thanks for pushing me into the world of fabric dye!! Love your blog…keep it up!!"
I love what you did Natalie!! Thanks so much for sharing :)
Today's giveaway includes two of my favorite things - soaps by Roger & Gallet (Bouquet Imperial scented) and a Rejuviebag made from recycled juice boxes! (There's an orange theme going on...)
To win the goods, leave a comment below answering the following...If you could go on a vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? A winner will get picked randomly tonight (12/18) and mentioned in tomorrow’s (12/19) post. Congrats to Shrav who won yesterday!
I have a top five list but the place I'd love to go right now would be Australia. I've been obsessed with the idea of visiting since being a kid and have dreams of seeing the Great Barrier Reef in person. Plus it's summer there now too, so the warm weather would be nice!
