This piece was scored after sifting through piles of garments and the fun primary colors totally struck my eye. It's a sheer-ish crepe material with some fabulous pleats!
I love the idea, but I don't love the execution. I'm taking this apart today!! I think by the end of this we'll have a little 2-for-1 action going on!!
I started off by cutting the dress at the waist, right above the seam, to break it up into two separate pieces.
I was left with this up top...
...and this bottom, which will be used today!!
There was some old, stretched out elastic that was still in the seam at the waist. I'm thinking that this dress had a cinched waist at some point and I want to bring that back!!
I went to my stash of elastic and grabbed some that fit within the seam at the waist.
I began to remove the gross and decomposing old elastic and replaced it with the new elastic using a safety pin as a guide through the seam.
With the new elastic in and the old elastic out...
...I stitched the ends of the new elastic together and had my skirt ready to wear!
I paired it with a black slip, fitted black tank, vintage black scale necklace (woo, Libra!) and wore it to dinner at the home of some amazing friends.
My favorite 4-year-old twins, A & O were in attendance...
...and I got hugs galore. Maybe it was because of the ice cream and fixins I brought for DIY sundaes (sprinkles, hot fudge, butterscotch, and some homemade whipped cream - I don't mess around with dessert!), but regardless of the reason, you can never get too many hugs :) Oh, and the biggest bear I've ever seen was also in attendance.
Before they passed out we did a little singing medley..."Call Me Maybe" meets "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" meets Moondance". I'm not even joking - their established music tastes cross many genres which is really quite advanced for newly turned 4 year olds :)
For a hot, hot day, this flowy skirt did wonders. Easy breezy has never rang more true!
I'm totally rewearing this skirt again over the weekend. The top will get some remake love soon...
