There's a whole lotta denim going on, however I'm loving this lighter shade, so that's the good part!!
I love this Stella McCartney piece that Kirsten Dunst is wearing, so I'm using this as my inspiration!!
I kept telling myself, "we'll get there Maris, we'll get there!!"
To create a similar look, I took off the top of the dress first!
I trimmed about two inches higher than the pockets that were on the dress.
With the top of the piece gone, I began to see how low I wanted to take it and began to pin the area where I wanted to sew a new seam.
I took in the top of the dress a bit and sewed down the edges...
...and went to work on the straps next that were coming from one of the sleeves!
I trimmed the sleeve into two strips...
...sewed the edges under and then stitched them to the top of the dress!
I had to affix some hardware to help keep one of the openings on the front of the dress shut!
To mimic the exposed buttons on Kirsten's Stella McCartney piece, I took off the denim panel that covered the buttons and button holes. With this piece gone, the brown buttons really pop and take it from dated to a bit more current!
I adjusted the length next. I wanted it to be a bit shorter, so I trimmed and sewed! I added my own little touch and gave it a slight mullet style look, creating a little dip in the back of the hem, going lower than in the front.
I love how this piece turned out!! It's awesome for fall to pair with boots and a sweater, or perfect in the heat! Kirsten wore hers to Coachella in the desert and that's how it's feeling outside today!
My day-to-night look ended up staying the same because of the heat, but we'll revisit this piece and give it a proper evening look soon!
From long sleeved to denim straps, this dress is getting a lovely second life!
