Oscar Week is in full effect! (Just an update for those who missed yesterday because of President's Day celebrating - perhaps you saw Lincoln?? - this week is going to be all about the nominated movies, with each day having a different Oscar movie-inspired-outfit.)
Today’s feature is Ben Affleck’s Argo!
I found something super 70s-esque to work for the film.
Yep, this one is a doozy!
I didn't zip the dress up all the way so you could see all the material that made up the neck! This dress is PERFECT for winter!!
I really loved the skirt - the pleats, the pockets, and the length - but the brown ribbed top was way less desirable. The dress would have been fine as is for movie purposes, but I wanted to make something that I'd actually wear.
I decided to remove the sleeves. I seam ripped...
I pinned...
...then stitched new armholes.
I had other intentions - to add mini red bows in a line down the front, mostly...
...but when I had them pinned in place, I just didn't like.
I opted to keep it simple and sweet and instead took a red sash, put it through the belt loops at the waist right above the pockets, and tied a bow in front. I'm actually super jazzed with how it turned out.
Like, really jazzed. I can't wait to rewear this piece!
I had a pair of my mom's vintage shades that really made this piece feel like something straight out of Argo.
I mean could I be sitting in this room too??
My favorite thrifted jacket paired perfectly with the ensemble. Red leather, big collar, big gold buttons...I got it for a steal!! (I won't even say how much it was because it's that insane.)
The accessories were the most fun to pair - I actually hadn't worn the red sash in a very long time!! It was like it was brand new because I totally forgot that I even owned it! (Love when that happens!)

This is my, "please save us, Tony Mendez" photo.
I won't give away any spoilers this week, but my fave line from the movie...yep, it's Alan Arkin saying "Argo F Yourself". Who else is in cahoots?? This could be my new fave curse word (if James Lipton were to ask...), but only if I pretend I'm Alan Arkin when I'm saying it.
A new Oscar nominated movie tomorrow!!
