Remake: Neon Flower Doodle Dress

So this floral print though...

Honestly I think I wore something like this when I was a kid in 1992!

The colors were so fun and summery feeling. I can't get enough of these "rainbow sherbet" colors! (PS, who else is a rainbow sherbet fan? I swear I dream about the Baskin Robbins variety at least twice a week!)

The thumbs up was me giving myself motivation that this was going to turn out AWESOME!

However, those layered pleats at the bottom just might have to say goodbye...

I started with my trusty scissors...

...and trimmed off the layered portion of the dress. I began to pin the raw edges of the top to prepare for a quick hem. Also, grab some fabric glue or use stitch witchery and iron the hem if you want to steer clear from the sewing machine!

I threaded my machine and stitched away!

Ooh, and this is what I was left with...

I feel pretty confident that something can still come from the above pile of flowery cotton fabric.

My new top is just the thing for the hot days ahead!

The pattern was SO overwhelming with the length and the ruffles, but paring down a bit makes the florals totally wearable and non-headache inducing.

With jeans, heels, a little clutch and my big sunnies, this outfit falls right in the center of casual chic!

And the beautiful thing about this cotton tank is that it'll work just as well as PJs or a workout top as well! Just all dependent on what you're looking for!

It still reminds me of Saved By the Bell but doesn't feel like it could have been a costume of Lisa Turtle's anymore!!

Weekend Acquisition!

Hello friends! I hope everyone had a most beautiful weekend! I took a solo trip up to Santa Barbara for the day to bike on the beach, hang out at Alameda Park for Earth Day festivities, and to go flea marketing. You can see below what I snagged...

Hey, crosstitched horses!! Yeah it was one of those "I know this is totally kitschy, but I think I need it in my office" moments. So...I snagged it for a few bucks. What do you guys think? Was I totally crazy for buying this?

Also, you'll see the after product of this beaut tomorrow.

The 90s called...and they DON'T want this dress back :)

Remake: Red, Blue, & Black Patterned Dress

So this dress... The sleeves were just a little too tight with those shoulder pads!!

...but the pattern was fab!

I think this was the "camera shot me mid-speaking" moment where I was contemplating "what am I going to do to make this something I want to wear."

The ideas were flowing and something hit!

Let's just start off...how cool is this pattern up close?

To alleviate the tight sleeves, I opted to remove them along with the shoulder pads. With my seam ripper, I carefully took both sleeves off of the dress.

I thought the neck could use a little bit of flair. The pattern was bold and busy, so I decided to take some lace fabric panels I bought in the garment district for pennies, and affix them to the front of the dress.

I had two panels, so I placed them side by side to create one larger black panel.

I pinned the pieces to the dress and stitched them down.

I loved the pleats and the length and wanted to keep everything in place just because of how awesome the skirt moved when I walk. That's an obvious choice...leave the length because the skirt swishing is fun :)
