Day 9. 356 days and $356 left to go.

On one of my garage sale stops I came across this "Campus Casuals of California" blouse. Trés 1984. When I saw this top, I immediately thought it could be something found in stores now. I have a royal blue version (ruffles, uncomfortable crepe material) that I got at H&M last year and it's one of my favorites. Not as comfy as it looks, but we all pay a price for fashion, right?

Day 9 - Before

There were a batch of boxes in somebody's driveway full of mostly men's clothing which I almost walked by but then, from the corner of my eye I saw it. A little glimpse of mauve peeking its way through Fubu sweatshirts and Old Navy carpenter jeans. (PS, I did not grab those my friends - I don't even think I can even make carpenter jeans work!!) There it was...my little diamond in the rough. Now, there were a few buttons missing - of course one happened to be set right between the boobs and the other was on one of the sleeves - and a slight tear on the seam in the armpit area.

A quick hand mending of the tear made it virtually impossible to see that it ever existed and a simple safety pin was used in lieu of the boob button. I didn't even replace the one missing from the sleeve. Totes obsessed with how easy it was to tweak and make right!

Day 8. 357 days and $357 left to go.

I was feeling a little bit of color today, perhaps the glow sticks that made their way out at some cocktailing with friends last night assisted in this feeling (I know...glow sticks. And we weren't even at a rave.) Whatever the actual reason, neon green was the choice of the day.

When I found this puppy I think that I actually put it back because of the amalgamation of colors from the middle of the ROYGBIV spectrum. I don't think I own anything in these shades of green. I mean, I tend to have difficulty dressing for St. Patrick's Day. But, I decided to go with it because the pattern was big, fun and paisley.

I chopped half of it off to make it knee-length and then took it in around the elastic waist to fit me. I'm liking the wearing of elasticized pieces that aren't solely my yoga pants - the comf factor is through the roof! After some adjusting, pairing it with a white tank (I wore my Alternative burn out one, but any basic Hanes one will do), and a cardigan the skirt was ready to go and I was out the door. Perfect Friday outfit!

Day 7. 358 days and $358 left to go.

OK, so I found this slightly grotesque get up sifting through oodles and oodles of vintage gear a few weeks ago. Now it was big, baggy, and to be quite honest, a little bit icky, but the embroidery and the peachy-orange hue was bold enough to take a chance, take a chance. I saw the potential and for $1 it was a no-brainer.

First thing I did was get rid of the length. That was definitely not happening. What also was not happening was the large sleeves and pretty much the entire top of the dress. My sewing machine earned its stripes getting this piece into wearable mode. I paired it with my favorite vintage belt from the 60s (thanks to my dad who actually owned it back then) and some boots in chestnut-brown.

Even though I was stoked with how this came out, I also got called Janet from Three's Company. Now I was slightly horrified at first, because Joyce DeWitt was totally the homely one who was not Suzanne Somers, but then I was also described as Margaret Thatcher, so Janet ended up not looking all that bad in the end. Next time I'm rocking the pigtails. Come and knock on my door!
