Carla's NDAD Creation

I'm loving this piece that Carla submitted!  See how she tweaks her garment that was just a smidge too tight in certain areas.  It's totally giving me ideas on what to do with a few things I've been holding onto...

I was browsing a thrift booth at my local weekend market (because the best clothes are always less than $2) when the saleslady approached me and handed me this dress, saying that it would look divine on me for work.  It was actually very pretty - the fabric was light, sheer, and very breezy, while the flower print was adorable.

Upon putting it on however, I realized that my two "bosom buddies" were slightly choking at the top that the outdated buttons couldn't hold them in.

Love your nickname for the girls, Carla!  Time to see what she did to this piece...

Sigh.  I loved the fabric of the dress but there was no way that I could wear as it was!  I decided to make it work and cut off the top, transforming it into a gorgeous floral maxi skirt!

Simple and elegant, and so easy to match with anything!

The gorgeous maxi skirt rules, Carla!!  Way to get make this dress work.  Just thinking outside the box a little can really transform anything.  Now your "bosom buddies" aren't confined to the top of the piece anymore!!  Looking forward to your next piece!

Becky's NDAD Creation

I loved the piece that Becky submitted because it's getting me excited for Thanksgiving! I know, it's cold and out and this fun and tropical print doesn't scream turkey and mashed potatoes, however I'm spending Thanksgiving at the beach this year! I'm having a destination Thanksgiving next week and I've been working away on some fun, summery pieces. You'll get to see those soon, but in the interim, check out B's piece. I LOVE it!!

I found your website, your glorious website that has taken a large chunk of my life, on Facebook. After going back through all your refashions, I told you it took a large chunk of my life, I decided to try my hand at refashioning.

I love this bold print that Becky picked out, however there's some work that needs to be done!  See what she does...

Well, I made plenty of mistakes, my dress smelled like BO and/or mothballs, but I had a blast! A few hours, and bucks, later I had a brand new dress to call my own.

Thanks for all the inspiration and fun you have brought into my life. This will not be my last refashion!

YAY!! I'm so glad that you've only just begun, Becky.  You're on a roll and I can't wait to see what else you crank out. Lookin' fab girl, lookin' fab!

Kristen's NDAD Creation

Today's piece made by the lovely Kristen is something that's totally my style. I would wear this all the time!! I'm on the hunt for a similar top to recreate myself! Check out what she did...

Hi Marisa!  I've been reading your blog for years and have seen you make so many dresses into cute shirts...so I'm super excited to share this dress I made FROM a shirt! I picked up this silk/cotton blouse at a thrift store for $3 without a real plan in mind. I just loved the fabric and all the awesome lace and embroidery details. So it came home with me and sat on the top of my sewing pile for a few months.

In the meantime, I totally fell for the "Blanchefleur Dress" from Free People.

I love that super airy, high-low hem, so I decided to try and replicate it with my thrifted blouse.

Let's see how Kristen works out her thrifted piece!

The first thing I did was cut off the sleeves and take in the extra material around the bust. I was sad to lose the sleeves, but they found a purpose later in the process.

Then I stitched up the new short sleeves by hand.

At this point the dress was SUPER SHORT - like tunic length (or teddy length) - so I used the fabric from the former long sleeves to piece together a 4-inch hem.

It was a bit of a stretch, but I made it happen - I pinned this to the original hem of the shirt, which already had a slight high-low shape. Fin! I love how many ways this dress can be styled! I topped it with my floppy felt hat and lace blouse for a ladylike look.

Then I went a bit more (shall we say) Coachella...and wore it belted with a little vest, headband, and these feather earrings, courtesy of my backyard chickens!

Kristen, I love your remake! Way to be inspired by the Free People piece to create your own version.  It looks gorgeous and can be worn so many different ways to enhance the boho chic-ness!  I'm on the hunt for mine now!
