Bekah's NDAD Creation

Bekah's remake story is pretty awesome - she took something that she really, really wanted and DIY'd it! I love when this happens. Check out her project!

I love love love your blog! I get your daily emails and really enjoy seeing the things you come up with! I have been really wanting one of the jersey skirts that are so popular but due to my *ahem* "hips" being "wider" I tend to not be able to find one that fits well. SO, I went to Old Navy and bought a wrap dress on clearance for $7.00.

This isn't the exact dress, but looks just like the black one that I bought.

Can't wait to see the after look!

I came home with my dress, cut the top off, and added a small bit of elastic to the back. I also added some belt loops to really mimic the wrap skirts that I've been eyeing.

It took me a while, as I don't have a sewing machine and did it all by hand, not to mention I'm a little particular. But in the end, I'm pretty excited about how it turned out!

Self portrait... kinda cut my head off :-o

Easy wrap dress in just a few steps! That's the thing - even if you don't have a sewing machine to complete projects, there are always other routes to take to get to your final destination. Bekah hand stitched, but you can always use Stitch Witchery or fabric glue or safety pins... Such a versatile piece to wear with everything! Way to go, Bekah!!

Belle's NDAD Creation

The love that I have for this remake is endless. Maybe because it's bringing me back to a happy, childhood place - you'll see what I mean in a few sentences - or maybe because it's super easy and something that turns out so cute at the end. Check out what Belle made her own...

Hi Marisa, I've been following your blog for over a year and it's totally inspired me to re-purpose of my old clothes. But today I decided to do something different! Instead of a clothing piece, I found this Smurfs pillow case at a garage sale for 50c.

I loved the print so I decided to craft this into a garment!!

Yeah girl!! Turn that Smurf print into something awesome!!

I decided to make this a simple elastic skirt. I tore apart the seams, made a casing, threaded my elastic through the casing and I was done!

I also decided to put some lace trim on the bottom that I nabbed for 20c.

It's now my new favourite skirt!

Eliza's NDAD Creation

Eliza submitted something fabulous my way and it's a dress that she got for free! I love remakes that come from situations like this. One person's throwaway is another person's brand new, gorgeous dress!  The color is so fantastic too! Check out what she did...

I worked as an RA my junior year of college and one of the other RA's in my building was given a bunch of bridesmaid dresses by a student's mother. After they floated around her hall for a while she asked me if I wanted any of them.

My mom taught me to sew when I was ten-ish and now I make a lot of my skirts and dresses, but had yet to refashion anything. This dress was free and so I decided to go for it.

See how Eliza's new dress turned out...

First I removed the bottom panel of the skirt and gave it a new hem. Next I took of the sleeves and the waist ties and recut the armholes into a slight racerback shape. I used the waist ties to face the armholes which was a whole lot easier than making bias tape.

I love how it turned out and I can't wait to find more things to refashion. (My little brother wanted to be in the photos too).

Thanks for the inspiration Marisa and for the reminder that making beautiful things doesn't have to start from scratch.

True that, Eliza!  I love what you did with this dress! What a perfect "new" piece for summer and yellow is such a gorgeous color on you. Also, you and your brother are adorable - you guys have that bent knee pose down to a science! I can't wait to see more refashions from you, now that you have one under your belt!
