Remake: Brown Plaid Skirt Teaser

Hello friends! Apologies for the lack of posting - the wi-fi has been a little dodgy while I've been in Bali...the mass bunch of post photos just don't seem to be uploading together :) However, I'm heading to another part of the city tomorrow and will have better access. Keep your eyes peeled... Until then, this is one of my fave first shots after arriving. How 'bout that for a coconut?? It's almost as big as my noggin. (PS, for more up-to-date trip pics, head on over to Instagram/Twitter!)

Love me some plaid skirts!

Thanks for your patience and happy weekend!! xx Marisa

Trish's NDAD Creation

Trish made a most gorgeous piece for today's post! I feel like the skirt she used is one that I had in my collection back in the 90s. The one that I used to wear mock turtlenecks with. The one that I used to wear Birkenstocks with. Yeah, I was straight up Reality Bites :) See how this turns out!

I am addicted to your blog, Marisa! Your fabulous creations inspired my sister and me to buy only second-hand for a full year. I found this skirt at Goodwill for $2.50. I knew that it wouldn't fit, but I loved how delicate the 100% silk fabric felt.

Also, I'm a sucker for thrift designer pieces like Bergdorf Goodman...

...so I brought it home and hand washed it!

Check out how Trish transformed it!!

The top layer and waist shrunk, so that the bottom layer hung out about two inches.  Although I was scared to sew such slinky silk, I cut in the sides to make sleeves...

...and turned it into this super cute dress.

Trish, your new piece is PERFECT! It turned out so well and you look gorgeous! I love the neckline and the sleeves! The after couldn't look more fantastic and I love how the little bit of blue peeks through the bottom. Can't wait to see the next designer-y piece you score at the GW!!

Linda's NDAD Creation (Part II)

My gal Linda, who I met at my book signing in San Francisco last year, submitted a fantabulous piece after I met her - click here for the refresher post. She started with this skirt before she remade it... New Dress A Day - DIY pillow - vintage skirt - Goodwill

...and today has come back with another remake using the leftovers! This is such a great idea for all those excess scraps of fabric that accumulate, and especially this time of year. You'll see what I mean...

Hello again, Marisa! I finally made the boot stands with the scraps from the two skirts I shortened a long while back. They were very easy to make and help keep my boots nice and upright.

I stuffed the stands with plastic shopping bags to make them even more "green". Did you know that I still had leftover material after the boot stands were made?? So, I decided to make a pillow, too!

What do you think? I liked how the pillow turned out, but now I'm thinking about making a tote bag with the same owl design. Many thanks for inspiring me to be more creative! Happy hugs!

LINDA!!!! I am OBSESSED with the owl pillow. There are really no words to describe the cuteness. Also the boot stands are just so perfect - not only are they practical, they look super chic. That material is just insane and I'm so glad that you used it all up! Please make a tote bag with the same owl design! I'm so looking forward to seeing it. I'm declaring you Queen Green, Linda!! xo
