Halloween Location Looks: 27 of 31 – Die Hard

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 27 is here and it's my favorite Christmas movie. Today’s costume comes from:

Nothing says the holidays to me like Die Hard.

Die Hard - title card

It's really become one of those family traditions... Chinese food on Christmas Eve, Gingerbread Lattes while looking at lights in the neighborhood, and Die Hard somewhere in-between.

Nothing is more memorable than Nakatomi Plaza in the film. It looks so sunset-y and pretty in the movie!

Die Hard - Nakatomi Plaza

The in real life version is way bigger than it seems!

Die Hard - John McClane costume

It's too good of a shooting location not to create a John McClain costume!!

Die Hard - John McClane

This costume is perfect for a last-minute pick - tank top, a pair of cargo pants, and a plastic weapon or walkie talkie!

I grabbed my props and headed off to the plaza!

Bruce Willis is one of the action movie kings.

Die Hard - John McClane

I just don't know how good I'd be with all of the stunts.

Die Hard - John McClane costume

Nakatomi Plaza is tall, yo!

Die Hard - John McClane

I did take a note from his performance. I went barefoot without issue...

...however Bruce, unfortunately, didn't have my same luck.

Glass + feet =

Die Hard - John McClane

...a very unpleasant self-extraction party.

I was ready to take down Alan Rickman...

...just without all the bells and whistles below.

Die Hard - John McClane

I'd love to do it from the ground floor.

Halloween Location Looks: 26 of 31 - LA Confidential

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 26 is here and it's a modern noir film of the 50s. Today’s costume comes from:

LA Confidential - title card

I love this era.

Crossroads of the World (c/o Warner Bros' "LA Confidential")

I love this part of LA too! Crossroads of the World has been around since 1936 and was the world's first outdoor mall (thanks Wikipedia!!). It's still used for shops but there's lots of offices situated there as well.

LA Confidential - Crossroads of the World

I love that old LA is the backdrop to this film and I love all the vintage clothes that make up the wardrobe.

LA Confidential - Kim Basinger

Kim Basinger is a dream!

To complete the 50s Lynn Bracken costume from LA Confidential, here are the main elements you'll need::

LA Confidential costume

1. Dress (I thrifted mine but there are always options on Etsy!)

2. Red lipstick (Mac makes my fave)

3. Blonde locks (my wig is c/o Party City)

I put on my white dress and hit Sunset Blvd.

LA Confidential - Kim Basinger Costume

Kim wore hers inside but I had to take mine outside for a twirl!

LA Confidential - Kim Basinger

There's something so glamorous about wearing a white satin dress in old Hollywood.

Plus it's super comfortable too!

LA Confidential - Kim Basinger

I just love the setup of Crossroads of the World. The different businesses sit in little bungalows with a faux cruise ship in the center!

It must have been hard getting glammed up like this everyday...

Kim Basinger did it well.

Halloween Location Looks: 25 of 31 - The Artist

My month of DIY costumes shot in front of the actual shooting locations continues!! Day 25 is here and it's a new, old film. Today’s costume comes from:

Artist - title card

Silent movies, le sigh. Silent movie costumes, le sigh times two!

The Artist - Berenice Bejo Jean Dujardin

They hot a portion of the film at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in mid-city LA...

The Artist - Wilshire Ebell Theater

...so I went off in the hopes of getting discovered, just like Peppy! (Berenice Bejo)

The costume pieces you'll need to look just like Peppy are:

The Artist - Costume Articles Berenice Bejo

1. Dress (Mine was old Erin Fetherston for Target, but this one totally works as well!)

2. Hat (This is a perfect bucket hat that looks just like the movie version!)

3. Gloves (I always get cheap packs of these at Target to have on hand as little gifts that I embellish!)

4. Ribbon (Use this to create a big bow to attach on the dress and another for around the hat!)

5. Wig (Mine is c/o Party City)

Lights, camera, action!

I put on my costume and began to channel my inner Peppy!

The Artist - Halloween Costume

Knowing that the pics were going to be converted to black and white, I used a dress that was a light beige along with a white hat and gloves.

The Artist - Jean Dujardin Berenice Bejo

The ribbon that I used was purple and it was a perfect contrast with the rest of the costume.

The Artist - Halloween Costume

This movie was just so charming...

...so it was so much fun to recreate this costume!

The Artist - Halloween Costume

Berenice Bejo is just so lovely - I always wanted to be a flapper...

In front of the marquee...
