Welcome to the NEW New Dress A Day!!

Hi friends, we're back!! YAY!!

It's been a while and I couldn't be happier to present the new platform to you all. The majority of 2016 has been spent working on this labor of love and it's finally time to reveal all we've been doing. You have NO idea how anxious I've been, wanting to show you everything we've been prepping and it's finally time!

You can have fun scouring the archives, there's larger imagery now (woo!!), WAY more searchability, and you can even shop the NDAD closet!

Vintage SF 49ers Shirt

When I first started blogging in 2009, I didn't think it would last more than that first year. I got laid off and I had a project to complete to keep the good old spirits up - 365 days / $365 dollars / 365 dresses (and other assorted pieces :) ) And now approaching 8 years later (OMG, saying that out loud is NUTS!!) it was time for a refresh.

The rest of this year will finish out with what you're used to seeing - remakes, copycats, and some other fun vintage finds, but come 2017 there's going to be even more new stuff. We'll dive into that as it gets closer...

I appreciate all the support, emails, comments (the good, the bad, all of them!) and love I've gotten from you and can't wait to keep this creative space going!

Remake: Red Floral Embroidered Shirt

I pretty much LOVE anything embroidered! So when I came across this top, it was love at first sight. My boobs however, weren't as thrilled. See below:

Unfortunately this top didn't fit in the state it was in...

...however I knew right off the bat that this piece would only need one step to make it perfect.

ELASTIC!! I swear, elastic has saved me time and time again. I kind of feel like I owe a LOT to that lovely, stretchy friend of mine!

Elastic!

I removed the old, worn out elastic and replaced it with new elastic, adding a trusty safety pin to guide through the shirt's seam. And that was it!

From too big to just right!

Red Embroidered Shirt - 7

I call this my Guns & Roses top! 🌹

Red Embroidered Shirt - 6

I paired this with jeans, but think that adding a high waisted pencil skirt could be an awesome alternative way to style!

Red Embroidered Shirt - 4

It's so cute!! Such an easy top to wear that feels fun and festive.

Remake: Mint & White Dress

We might have found a new color palette pair fave!

Vintage mint & white dress

A little vanilla mint action, you could say? (Yeah, I've ALWAYS got my mind on sweets!)

Vintage mint & white dress 2

I loved the essence of this dress! There were a few things that needed some adjusting, but overall the structure was fab.

I could do without the ruffles on the sleeve's edge, but we'll get to that! :)

I got my tools ready to go!

A little behind the scenes action!!

A little behind the scenes action!!

The more I thought about the sleeves, I just decided to take them completely off!

I used my seam ripper to take them both off and then pinned each new arm hole in prep for stitching.

Got the sewing machine threaded with mint thread and finished the edges!

Next it was time to adjust the waistline. The elastic that was currently there basically turned into ribbon after being there so many years - there was just no stretch at all! I removed the old and replaced with the new!

I love when it cinches like this!!

A few small changes here and there and we've got a brand new dress!

I love the ribbed texture to the fabric and I think it stands out more with the sleeves gone!

I went neutral with shoes and paired the dress with my Aerosole heels to give it a fall-ish feel!

I love the idea of adding a patterned cardigan to go on top!

This one was all about fit and just simplifying what was already there.

Vintage mint & white dress (Before & After)

I had a chemistry teacher in high school who was well versed in telling us to KISS - keep it simple, stupid. I'm not a fan of calling anyone stupid, so let's just keep it simple, stitchers :)
