I finally came up with something to do with this dress that my gal Cindy in CO sent my way oh, so long ago!!
I really enjoy your blog and I am impressed with all of your accomplishments. I bought this item second hand so I don't have any great story about it. I just thought the fabric was pretty! I hope you find some inspiration with this item and I am looking forward to seeing all of your new creations.
I loved the fabric too...
...metallic, silvery, lace.
Pretty awesome, however I can't get away with wearing it as is day to day. I have a few fun ideas to make this June-worthy!
I started with the sleeves...
I removed the seams holding both puffy sleeves in place and got out the satiny shoulder pad-esque pouffs as well.
We're now sleeveless!! I pinned my sleeves to prep for sewing.
Before I hit the machine, I tackled the skirt next. I loved the lacy material...
...but wanted some of the polyester slip removed, so I began to trim to make a cute sheer bottom to the dress.
With the slip cut, I started to sew everything in place!
Last, I took a little safety pin and did some pinchin' and cinchin' at the bust. I gathered about an inch, pinched in place, and pinned it down.
With a vintage necklace, my Vans straw hat, and my color blocked Havaianas, my dress was finito!
I was going for the same idea as Leighton Meester in Marc Jacobs...
...and this Gypsy 05 look...
Opaque up top, sheer on the bottom!
This felt like the perfect beach dress, except I did not go to the beach.
I did pose by the pool though!
Thank you so much for sending this my way Cindy!! You can find Cindy here!
