I just got back home from my LA-SF road trip weekend where I got to hang out with some of my favorite people and meet a bunch of you guys! I'll be doing a full rundown of all the signing parties next week, right before the holidays :) Speaking of holidays, and all the fun holiday events/parties going on, today's remake comes from my mom (yay!!) who put together her own NDAD holiday piece to share. I absolutely love it!!
I have been with you on this wonderful journey from the very beginning and being that I am a charter member of the NDAD club, I felt the urge to send you a creation of my own to share! You have inspired me as well as thousands of others and I am overflowing with pride to see what you have accomplished through all of your hard work, dedication and perseverance.I purchased the dress for my refashion from Goodwill and it was almost free with the senior discount I was given - 55 and older get 25% off on Tuesdays! I was looking for something to make into a holiday piece and came across this too big, too long, pin-wale corduroy cranberry colored dress, which had a button missing.
After giving it some thought I decided to take it home and try to create a holiday top.
What will my mom come up with????
The sleeves were shortened to become 3/4 length…
…and the bottom half of the skirt was removed.
(I can't wait to play with this excess material when I get to NC!!)
I removed the remaining buttons...
(The leftovers!!)
I took out the shoulder pads…
(The pads!)
...and the black velveteen collar.
In order to make it look more festive and glittery, I decided to add a pretty gold trim and gold buttons. I left the neckline as it was once the collar was removed and sewed it back to the original facing.
There were two ties sewed into back seams so I brought them around to the front and attached them with a button in the center. The top had to be taken in around the armholes and sides as well to give it a more fitted look. My favorite earrings that I like to wear during the holidays (I call them my Christmas tree earrings because they are in the shape of a tree and have these colorful crystals hanging down) looked fabulous with my new top!
From a distance the corduroy fabric has the look of velveteen. I can wear this top with pants, a skirt or even jeans depending on the occasion. Bring on the holidays - Thanksgiving through New Year's = my favorite time of the year!!
One of the best gifts of the season is having you visit us for a few weeks!!
Congratulations on your book, sweetie - what an accomplishment!! I can still remember the day we went to see Julie and Julia!! It has been a joy to be by your side on this tremendous and exciting adventure and I feel so blessed and honored to have you for a daughter! Love always, Mom
Aww, how cute are you Mom?? Thank you for sharing this with everyone!! You look gorge :)
I'm looking forward to family time and I'm totally heading to Goodwill with my mom to reap her 25% off benefits!! I can guarantee that there will be lots of projects going on in late December.
