Oscar Week continues!! Day 3: Dallas Buyers Club.
The Matthew McConaughey/Jared Leto pairing was the best.
Jared Leto's costumes were the best.
And let's be honest...Jared Leto's hair now, is the best. It's like the perfect color and cut of my dreams. Not joking. Totally serious. I want Jordan Catalano's hair. (MSCL reference, aka, Marisa's high school journal played out on TV.)
OK, now I found an amazing hand embroidered robe that I was going to use to match more of his look, however when I found this piece...
It's screamed Dallas.
The brand is called Miss Rodeo USA...
...so I just had to.
First stop on this hoedown highway - Rhode DYE-land. (Good one, right??)
Now little sidenote - I ultimately went with Navy dye but that was after a quick bath in Teal which left the piece too light for my taste. I really wanted the trims to pop, so I redyed the piece with Navy and got this fabulous purple-ish shade.
I cut the piece in half...
...and then removed the arms.
I'm turning this into a fab little capelet to really feature all the busy lace/fringe/tulle/trim that was on the top of the shirt.
After years of wear and tear, the fringe strips got pretty worn out...
...so I decided to give the fringe a little hair cut, or fringe cut, to get rid of the split ends!! With my rotary trimmer and mat, it was an easy tweak to snip the fringe evenly. I cut about half off to make the fringe look less tangled plus I wanted to not make it so overwhelmingly in your face. I mean that fringe was IN YO FACE!
Now the final piece to this refashioning puzzle!! I removed the stitched keeping the collar in place...
...removed it completely...
...and restitched the seam closed. Ready to see what that original shirt became???
Capelet City!!!
I paired the new accessory with a purple vintage dress, a pair of copper Steve Madden pumps, my fave Forever 21 sunnies, and a rhinestoned purse that I made! (DIY to come...)
A removable piece of flair?? Check and check.
I kept three buttons on the piece...
...however I think I like them open.
You can take the country western shirt out of Texas but you can't take Texas out of the country western shirt :)
It's totally chic now - I'm in love!!
